Hello, my name is Jarah! I am the Lead designer and Owner of Smarvellous Designs.
Here are some quick facts about me:
I am an Alberta girl and have lived over half my life in Lethbridge.
When I am not designing you can find me playing, walking, or snuggling with Wrigley, my Cockapoo.
I love to ski and my favourite place to ski is Lake Louise.
I love to travel. I have been all across Canada, 3 of the Hawaiian Islands, a good portion of the northern United States, Scotland, England, and France.
My happy place is very specific - Rum Fire, a beachside lounge on Waikiki Beach. From there you get an amazing view of the beach and the ocean, Diamond Head volcano, and the lush mountains. Heaven on earth!
How did Smarvellous Designs come to be?
Since I was a little girl, design has been a big part of my life. I used to spend hours with my dad as he was designing and building houses. As a teenager, I came up with an advertising campaign concept and design for a car that my dad presented to his company. This was such a cool experience as the campaign was not only a success, but it had billboards featuring the car that appeared all across Canada!
After completing high school, I decided to pursue a career as a Registered Dental Assistant. I worked in this field for 13 years until the COVID-19 pandemic hit. During the pandemic, like many others, I found myself reevaluating my priorities and contemplating making changes. After much consideration, I decided to transition into a different aspect of healthcare and became a Patient Experience Coordinator at a Health and Wellness Centre.
While working there, design came back into my life! My responsibilities included identifying different types of marketing materials needed to promote the Centre and designing them. This reignited my passion for design and I found fulfillment in the creative process! Unfortunately, due to the impact COVID-19 had on many businesses, I was laid off.
However, there was a silver lining. I now had the opportunity to go back to school. What did I choose?? Graphic Design! I enrolled in a Graphic Design Technology Diploma program and graduated with Honours.
Upon graduation, I founded Smarvellous Designs. I aim to bring the power of visual storytelling through well-crafted design to your brand. I look forward to assisting you in unlocking the full potential of your brand's narrative.
